Recovery Day....

Well as you can imagine, partying hard the night before made today a day of recovery so the pace was slow. We did very little touring but we did see a cool church called Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady) and walked around the old town. a bit Later after a long lunch it was back to Oktoberfest for some carnival fun. This time drinking was minimal so we can recharge and be ready for Prague. We leave in the morning and I can't wait!

Birthday Shoutout

An incedible first day!

Our first full day in Munich was amazing.. First we decided to go to a concentration camp in Dachau (this was Corm's idea) and it was quite an experience to learn what had happened there and how many had died. Always good to learn some history.
The CrematoriumThe Catholic MemorialThe Entrance with the German phrase meaning "work brings freedom"

Then we didn't waste any more time and and headed to Oktoberfest! We met up with Susanne, a friend of Gerhard's from Stuttgart (about a 3 hr drive from Munich). Oktoberfest was CRAZY!!! Check out the view from this scary ride Char and I took. The other's were to chicken to try it.
Party time in the tent with Bavarian music and liters and liters of Bier! Our Italian friends were enjoying themselves.Gman found a BIG pretzel ('breze').... We ended the night at a nightclub where we danced the night away...

Bierhalle....at last Munchen!

We made it to Munich and found the Irish
Mad Dog! Liter beers at the Augustiner Bierhalle with Cormac!!! These Germans don't mess around. Sitting at a table next to a bunch of guys from Dublin; what are the chances of that?!!

Later that night it was the Hofbrauhaus for German sausage and sauerkraut....and of course more beers!

A quick stop at the windy city. Just enough time to have Chicago style pizza and a quick beer. We are Munich bound and free cocktails on the flight.... Woo Hoo!

Dorky Rob

Char thinks Rob looks like a complete dork because he doesn't match in his travel outfit sitting at the airport....gee thanks! At least I have shiny shoes!

Takeoff

It is official, we are now on our way to Deutschland! We love the Sactown airport for their free Wi-fi. We arrived at the airport early and did not have to stand in a single line. Rob even has enough time to get a shoe shine.

One week 'til take-off

We only have one more week to go before we depart for our 2-week whirlwind backpacking tour of a teeny-tiny fraction of Eastern Europe. This last hectic week consists of working, last minute trip purchases, trial runs of packing, backpack weighing, continuous planning ... oh and a Journey, Heart, Cheap Trick concert :)
